# The Genesis Era

The Genesis Era is Gotchi Battler's opening season: a chance to build your first team, learn the game, and compete through a calendar of tournaments running into 2027.

Across the era, **74 ETH and 600,000 GHST** are committed to tournaments and Arcade. ETH and GHST are cryptocurrencies; GHST is the token used by the wider Aavegotchi community. These amounts are shared funding for the era, with prizes earned through play and tournament results.

## Start with a free team

You can join without buying a unit, a pass, or any cryptocurrency. Connect a crypto wallet to sign in, claim your five free **Spirits** (the units you raise within Gotchi Battler) and start learning in Campaign. A desktop browser gives you the best experience.

As you play, you'll develop your team, choose skills, and collect equipment. The Crystal Temple dungeon and rotating Quests give you more ways to strengthen your collection before testing it against other players. Your choices about which units to combine and where to place them matter alongside their levels.

Start with [How to Play](/gotchi-battler/guides/how-to-play.md), or explore the [Game Modes](/gotchi-battler/guides/game-modes.md) to find your next challenge.

## Rewards are already funded

The Genesis funding is already secured and held separately in a dedicated wallet owned by the **Aavegotchi DAO**, Aavegotchi's community organization. It is a **multisig wallet**, which needs approval from multiple people to move funds. The committed funding does not depend on future Shop sales.

You can view the [Genesis funding wallet on Basescan](https://basescan.org/address/0x26556Bd40eeb4368eD9CE866341BB0039777a6a9).

| Part of the game | Genesis allocation |
| ---------------- | -------------------------------------------------------- |
| Tournaments | 65 ETH and 600,000 GHST in prize pools |
| Arcade | 9 ETH set aside for reward pools and promotional entries |

To support what comes next, **50% of Shop revenue funds tournament prize pools for the next Era**, with the other **50% going to the developers**. Arcade Key sales are separate, with **90% funding future Arcade prize pools**. See [how purchases support the game](/gotchi-battler/guides/shop.md#how-purchases-support-the-game) for the full split.

## A tournament series every two weeks

Genesis includes **24 series, each containing two tournaments**, for 48 tournaments in total. Series alternate between GHST and ETH prizes:

* **Twelve GHST series:** 50,000 GHST each.
* **The first ETH series:** a special 10 ETH Genesis Launch Series.
* **Eleven more ETH series:** 5 ETH each.

Each series offers two competitions. Both are free to enter, and neither requires a paid pass.

| Competition | What to expect | Prize places |
| ------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------- |
| **Challenger Cup** | Unit levels are capped at 49 and crystal equipment at Legendary rarity during battles. | Top 128 teams, sharing 35% of the series prize pool |
| **Championship** | Compete without those level or crystal caps. | Top 64 teams, sharing 65% of the series prize pool |

The Challenger Cup limits how much levels and crystals can strengthen a team. Units and crystals above its limits are reduced for those battles; weaker units are not raised to the limit. Your collection stays unchanged outside the competition.

Prizes depend on your team's finishing position. The number of prize places is not a limit on how many teams may enter. Here is how each series prize pool is divided between its two tournaments:

| Series | Challenger Cup | Championship |
| ---------------------------- | -------------: | -----------: |
| 50,000 GHST Genesis Series | 17,500 GHST | 32,500 GHST |
| 10 ETH Genesis Launch Series | 3.5 ETH | 6.5 ETH |
| 5 ETH Genesis Series | 1.75 ETH | 3.25 ETH |

#### Challenger Cup - top 128

The Challenger Cup is aimed at players developing their Spirit and Aavegotchi teams, with unit levels capped at 49 and Crystals capped at Legendary. Its longer, shallower prize ladder pays more finishing positions, with smaller differences between neighboring prizes.

| Finishing position | 50,000 GHST series | 5 ETH series | 10 ETH launch series |
| ------------------- | -----------------: | -----------: | -------------------: |
| 1 | 381 GHST | 0.0381 ETH | 0.0762 ETH |
| 2 | 350 GHST | 0.035 ETH | 0.07 ETH |
| 3 | 321 GHST | 0.0321 ETH | 0.0642 ETH |
| 4 | 294 GHST | 0.0294 ETH | 0.0588 ETH |
| 5–6 | 270 GHST | 0.027 ETH | 0.054 ETH |
| 7–8 | 249 GHST | 0.0249 ETH | 0.0498 ETH |
| 9–12 | 231 GHST | 0.0231 ETH | 0.0462 ETH |
| 13–16 | 216 GHST | 0.0216 ETH | 0.0432 ETH |
| 17–24 | 204 GHST | 0.0204 ETH | 0.0408 ETH |
| 25–32 | 192 GHST | 0.0192 ETH | 0.0384 ETH |
| 33–48 | 180 GHST | 0.018 ETH | 0.036 ETH |
| 49–64 | 165 GHST | 0.0165 ETH | 0.033 ETH |
| 65–96 | 103 GHST | 0.0103 ETH | 0.0206 ETH |
| 97–128 | 42 GHST | 0.0042 ETH | 0.0084 ETH |
| **Tournament pool** | **17,500 GHST** | **1.75 ETH** | **3.5 ETH** |

#### Championship - top 64

The Championship is aimed at players pushing their teams further, with no level or Crystal caps. Its larger pool supports a shorter, steeper prize ladder: fewer finishing positions earn rewards, with larger prizes and bigger jumps toward the top of the standings.

| Finishing position | 50,000 GHST series | 5 ETH series | 10 ETH launch series |
| ------------------- | -----------------: | -----------: | -------------------: |
| 1 | 3,250 GHST | 0.325 ETH | 0.65 ETH |
| 2 | 2,300 GHST | 0.23 ETH | 0.46 ETH |
| 3 | 1,650 GHST | 0.165 ETH | 0.33 ETH |
| 4 | 1,180 GHST | 0.118 ETH | 0.236 ETH |
| 5–6 | 900 GHST | 0.09 ETH | 0.18 ETH |
| 7–8 | 700 GHST | 0.07 ETH | 0.14 ETH |
| 9–12 | 565 GHST | 0.0565 ETH | 0.113 ETH |
| 13–16 | 465 GHST | 0.0465 ETH | 0.093 ETH |
| 17–24 | 405 GHST | 0.0405 ETH | 0.081 ETH |

| 49–64 | 325 GHST | 0.0325 ETH | 0.065 ETH |

### Entering a Genesis series

Registration is open for **one week**. Enter five units and, if you want more options between rounds, up to two substitutes before registration closes.

If you plan to borrow Aavegotchis, arrange the loan during the Upcoming phase of the tournament. It must be active during the weekly snapshot on the **Monday registration opens, at 14:00 UTC**. See [Borrowing and lending Aavegotchis](/gotchi-battler/guides/game-modes/tournaments.md#borrowing-and-lending-aavegotchis) before choosing a loan.

You may enter multiple teams, including teams in both competitions, but every unit must be distinct across that series. This includes substitutes: a Spirit or Aavegotchi registered in the Challenger Cup cannot also appear in the paired Championship or another team in the same series.

While registration is open, you can withdraw a team and register again with a different roster or in the other competition. Once registration closes, you cannot withdraw to release those units. Elimination does not make them available for another entry in the same series. They can be used again in a later series.

Genesis tournaments use **double elimination with a single grand final** and **12-hour rounds**. There is a preparation window before each round, so you can adjust your team without being online when its battle runs. See [Tournaments](/gotchi-battler/guides/game-modes/tournaments.md) for a walkthrough of the stages, preparation options, and brackets.

## Full Genesis tournament schedule

**Game launch:** December 5, 2026, at 14:00 UTC. The first tournament registration opens on December 14, giving you time to start building your team.

Each row below represents **two tournaments: a Challenger Cup and a Championship**. They share the listed series prize pool as shown above and use the same dates.

All dates in the table begin at **14:00 UTC**. Registration closes when preparation begins. The first round's battles take place **12 hours later, at 02:00 UTC the following day**. For example, the first series enters preparation on December 21, and its first battles take place on December 22. Later rounds also run 12 hours apart.

## A different challenge in Arcade

[Arcade](/gotchi-battler/guides/game-modes/arcade.md) gives you a fresh team for each run. You'll draft temporary units and make choices as you face harder battles, without bringing in the levels or equipment from your permanent collection. That makes it another way to take part in Genesis while you're still building your first team.

Ready to get started? Follow [How to Play](/gotchi-battler/guides/how-to-play.md) to sign in and prepare for your first battle.
